(from page 34 of the 1967 Collection) Have you ever seen one of these? Have you ever heard of the Indy Pacesetter Special? It was produced to honor the Indy 500 race, without being an official Indy pacecar. These special dual stripes were unique to the limited edition model. According to the owner, Fran, these stripes have been painted on, we think the original were reflective tape stripes. Features of this special included Scotchlite (reflective) stripes (possibly blue over black dual stripes), special rear grille (white taillight panel with blue stripes as shown here), sporty louvered hood with integrated turn signals, sport tires with the optional V8, bucket seats, blue interior vinyl trim, full carpeting, and full wheel covers with whitewall tires. We believe they all came in Wimbledon White exterior paint. Fran tell us the Marti Report on his car states that 324 were ordered by Allen County Motors of Fort Wayne, Indiana. We've found many newspaper advertisements about the sale of this car in 1967.

(from page 34 of the 1967 Collection) The stripes are light blue on top and black on the bottom. They are straight and come to a point on the front fender. This one has a V8 engine and two-tone blue interior.

(from page 35 of the 1967 Collection) Here are some photos taken of Fran's 1967 Indy Pacesetter when it was new back in 1967! The color of the stripes are not shown well in this photo. Fran says that the current stripes are painted on. The Pacesetter ads tell us that these are Scotchlite stripes. Scotchlite stripes are reflective and are probably vinyl. They may even be one decal containing both stripes, one on each side.

(from page 35 of the 1967 Collection) Here is a shot down the right side of this 1967 Pacesetter when new back in 1967.

(from page 35 of the 1967 Collection) Here is an interesting shot. Notice the blue painted inserts on the ribs of the special taillight panel. Check out the old Chevy in the background.

(from page 35 of the 1967 Collection) This is an advertisement we found for the 1967 limited edition Indy Pacesetter special Mustang. This limited edition Mustang was sold only in the Indiana area and came with Scotchlite (reflective) stripes, special rear grille (white taillight panel with blue pin stripes), sporty louvered hood with integrated turn signals, sport tires with the optional V8, bucket seats, blue interior vinyl trim, full carpeting, and full wheel covers with whitewall tires. We believe they all came in Wimbledon White exterior paint. This ad was placed by Bathien Ford in the May 21st, 1967 edition of the Kokomo Tribune or Kokomo, Indiana. We have found many newspaper advertisements in the Indiana for the Indy Pacesetter, all in May, with the earliest one being May 1st, 1967. The most common ad was the 2nd and fourth in this grouping. We also found the general GM and Ford pacesetter sales for April and May of 1967. Indiana dealers we found with advertisements include: Banthien Ford of Kokomo, Don Ross Motors of Tipton, Johnson Ford of Logansport, Fred Welker Ford of Anderson, Gutwein Motors of Monon, and Dick Green Motors of Cambridge City. According to a Marti Report on an owner's Indy Pacesetter, 324 where order by Allen County Motors of Fort Wayne, Indiana. We think all the dealers in the area then got them from Allen Motors.

(from page 35 of the 1967 Collection) Here is another Limited Edition 1967 Indy Pacesetter Mustang newspaper advertisement. This ad maybe Ford corporate designed since it follows a similar format we found with other Ford ads where the dealer could insert their name and address at the bottom. This ad was placed by Gutwein Motors in the May 25th, 1967 edition of the Monon News of Monon, Indiana.

(from page 35 of the 1967 Collection) This ad was placed by Johnson Ford in the May 18th, 1967 edition of the Logansport Pharos-Tribune and Press of Logansport, Indiana. It shows the Limited Edition 1967 Indy Pacesetter Mustang with a price of $2360. Other Pacesetter advertisements indicated an optional V8, so this price may be the 6 cylinder version because of the wording "as low as".

(from page 35 of the 1967 Collection) This is an ad placed by Don Ross Motors in the May16th, 1967 edition of the Tipton Tribune of Tipton, Indiana for the Pacesetter Sale and Limited Edition Indy Pacesetter Mustang. The bottom of the ad reads: Come save on the strongest, quietest Fords ever built - Fairlanes with performance that won the '67 Daytona 500! The race was won by Mario Andretti in February of 1967. The May 30th, 1967, Indianapolis 500 official pace car was the first year of the Camaro. The Indy Pacesetter may have been a reminder that the Mustang was the Indy Pace Car for 1965 and just won the Daytona 500.

(from page 35 of the 1967 Collection) Site visitor, Denis, found a scan of this 1967 Mustang Indy Pacesetter Special photo. Looks like a vintage Ford factory photo.
